Customer Service and Employee Relations: Here's Something Worth Noting

DeKalb Plastic Award

Exceptional product quality and customer service are two ingredients for a winning recipe.  One hint of the recipe that does not get enough attention is employee relations in business.  This is where we would like to congratulate DeKalb Molded Plastics for winning a Plastic News Excellence Award.

President Rick Walters truly cares about his 130 employees.  Running a company involves a multitude of factors; Walters approaches employee relations as something that is needed to help keep a company running with continued success.

Walters has changed a culture that was once donned as “veritable chimney of smokers – more than 52 percent partook..” in smoking.  DeKalb is now a tobacco-free facility.  Many healthy upgrades can be credited to Kassy Davis, the human resources director at DeKalb.

A wellness program was initiated by Davis.  Inside of the factory employees can get free chair massages, attend health fairs, or take a Zumba class.  How many manufacturing companies do you know that offer this?  Employees can also earn up to $400 off their health insurance premiums if they are active participants in their overall health.

In addition to maintaining talent at DeKalb, these programs will help to promote new talent to DeKalb.  In fact, 35 new hires happened in 2012.  We wanted to congratulate DeKalb Molded Plastics on winning the award – the deserve it!  We look forward to sharing continued success with a company that knows the importance of employee and customer relations.

Companies such as GE, Google, Nike among others have had a variety of public recognition being a “healthy office” workplace.  DeKalb just might be setting the new standard in manufacturing, an industry where healthy workers is a must in order to maintain quality and longevity with the company.  DeKalb sets a high-standard for a healthy workplace.

Maybe this is one of the reasons why DeKalb is being considered for the processor of the year award.
